About Us

Our beautiful “Schönfeld Castle” is located on an estate, which the family von Seydlitz has owned since 1913. We cater for small and large groups, and provide fine accommodation as well as excellent service. Due to our central location 270 km north-west of Windhoek, Schönfeld is not only a prime destination for hunters, but also a perfect starting point for photo safaris and trips throughout our diverse and fascinating country.

The von Seydlitz Family is one of the pioneers of game farming and professional hunting in Namibia, having founded Schönfeld Safaris in the early 1980’s.

There are great possibilities to combine your stay with us or your hunting trip with a safari through Namibia. We offer guided tours by car and by aircraft, or organize your customized self-drive tour . Please visit the “Safaris” section for further information.

Come and join us for the experience of a lifetime, on an unforgettable adventure! Wake up to the serene sound of African birdsong, watch the sunrise from a richly spread table; spend the day exploring, tracking, hunting, and being immersed in the wild African bush; experience the breathtaking sunsets, and enjoy the nights around the fireplace with your host for a barbeque with unique Euro-African cuisine. Schönfeld’s highest priorities are top quality, excellent service, and making our guests part of our Schönfeld-family. History

History
History

The farmer and pioneer Siegfried von Seydlitz emigrated in 1908 from Germany to German South-West Africa, today’s Namibia, and acquired Schönfeld in 1913.

Today, nearly a century later, Schönfeld is one of the few family estates still run by the family which emigrated there.

In 1940, the family had to leave the residence at Schönfeld farm due to a severe shortage of water. The family had to move to the neighboring farm Okakango, (Immenhof). From 1980 onwards Hartwig and Elke von Seydlitz (third generation) rebuilt the ruins of the original Schönfeld estate and created the beautiful Seydlitz Castle as it stands today.

In1986, Hartwig and Elke von Seydlitz acquired the neighboring hunting-area Okongue. In this area, rare game animals such as Roan, Sable, Cheetah, Leopard, and the small Damara Dik-Dik are present in abundance, along with many plains game species such as Kudu, Oryx, Springbuck and Waterbuck, Giraffe, Zebra, and many more.

Due to sustainable hunting methods and game-management, Schönfeld is now one of Namibia’s leading game farms.
